- ^W{Preparation for Painting.^W}

-
- 1. Apply a piece of adhesive tape to the old paint on the surface.
- If the paint comes off on the tape you will need to sand the surface
- down, removing all old poorly adherent coating.
-
- 2. Clean off all dirt and grease with water and detergent then sand to
- provide a key for new work.
-
- 3. Special primers or sealers are necessary to seal off the surface
- before application of undercoat and finish. Check label directions
- to ensure you are tackling the job correctly.
-
- 4. Undercoats are used to fill and smooth out the existing surface to give
- you a good base for the final coats.
-
- 5. Before you do anything make sure the paint is stirred. Use a flat
- stick and move the stirrer up and down in a scooping action.
-
- 6. Always paint across the room and away from a light source
- such as a window. As with all surfaces ensure you 'lay off' the paint
- finish by going back over the surface lightly with a brush or roller to
- remove any streaks and even out the surface.
-
- 7. Apply the necessary primers or undercoats as directed by the instructions on
- the can for the finishing coat. Use a roller if possible, as paint will go
- on five times faster than with a brush. You may need a brush around screws
- and edges.
-
- 8. Avoid painting in very hot or very cold conditions and plan to finish at
- least two hours before sundown, rain or dew.
-
-
-
- ^GREMEMBER:^H Read the label of the can of paint you are using for the final
- coat. It will give you full details and directions on undercoats and sealers
- you may need. If in doubt contact Epiglass Technical Service for further
- advice.
